Spatial Culture Festival

In an effort to open the topic of architecture to the broader cultural public and establish an active and high-quality dialogue, the idea of the Spatial Culture Festival 2017 was born. This festival was organized in September 2017 and 2018 as a public, annual cultural event aimed at highlighting the significance of architectural culture in the broadest sense. Festivals included exhibitions, lectures, talks, cinema and music concerts.

The festival defines multiple goals – Opening a wide platform for dialogue on architecture and spatial culture; Bringing these topics closer to the broader cultural community; Encouraging community involvement in processes related to architecture, urban planning, and space organization.

Spatial Culture Festival 2017
The focus of the 2017 festival was the value of industrial heritage in the city center, specifically the Svilara complex, and its potential as a public space for cultural events. A part of the Svilara complex was managed by the Academy of Arts of the University of Novi Sad, which provided the venue for the festival. In 2019, this space was transformed into the Cultural Station Svilara.

A report on the first Spatial Culture Festival can be found in issue No. 83 of the magazine DaNS.

Spatial Culture Festival 2018
Following its debut, the second Spatial Culture Festival was held from September 21 to 23, 2018, at the Cultural Station Eđšeg. In addition to exhibitions by regional partners from Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the New Places competition, the festival’s main focus was on dialogue between experts, city administration, and citizens regarding competitions for the development of central city squares in Novi Sad.

The festival was initiated by the Board of the Society of Architects of Novi Sad and members of Baza.
