18/19/20 – Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina

18-19-20 is the annual exhibition showcasing the educational practice of BAZA members, developed through engagement with undergraduate students of Architecture at the Department of Architecture and Urbanism, Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad.

The exhibited projects are structured around themes related to the design of public buildings within the urban fabric of Novi Sad, exploring contemporary typologies and pertinent locations. BAZA’s pedagogical framework is founded on the premise that an active engagement with the spatial dynamics of Novi Sad constitutes a critical platform for architectural education. This approach not only fosters design proficiency but also cultivates an awareness of contemporary urban challenges, architectural discourse, and spatial transformations within the city.

The 2019 studio work within the courses Architectural Design 1 and Architectural Design 2 has been oriented towards two urban sites of distinct spatial and morphological characteristics: the Petrovaradin Suburbium and the Northern Industrial Zone 2. The urban stratification of these locations, combined with ongoing developmental trajectories, provides a conceptual framework for reinterpreting spatial and programmatic parameters as prerequisites for their future adaptation and use.

The third-year architectural design studio is structured around an iterative process of research, conceptualization, spatial programming, and typological development of public architecture. The curriculum is formulated to enable students to critically assess the multilayered contextual forces acting upon a specific site and, through a methodologically rigorous analytical process, establish an architectural concept that culminates in a design proposal. A key educational transition at this stage of study is the shift in focus from residential architecture towards public-use structures. This transition is addressed through a research-based design methodology that integrates programmatic determinants, socio-cultural influences, and aesthetic considerations into a comprehensive architectural response.

In addition to the projects from Architectural Design 1 and Architectural Design 2, the exhibition features selected thematic works produced within the courses Introduction to Architectural Design 2 (first year), Exhibition and Event Architecture, and Contemporary Architecture 2 (fourth year).

The exhibition opening was followed by a gathering in the museum atrium to commemorate July 1st – the Day of the Association of Architects of Novi Sad.
